Balloon Wreath

Birthdays are so fun! I am all about turning a birthDAY into birthday WEEK. Everyone deserves to be spoiled for their birthday. This month it is both mine and my daughters birthday so I have been looking for fun crafts for us to do together. I saw a balloon wreath on pinterest and had to create my own. I love this because it works for any age and gender. It's a unisex decoration which is  hard to find.

Materials:
* 200 balloons (Dollar Tree sells 25 for $1 or Walmart sells 75 for $4.50. I liked the colors better at Walmart so I used those)
* 18 inch styrofoam wreath ($7.99 at Michaels. I used 40% off coupon which made it only $4.80)
* Pins (one container is all you need, there is like 300 in a package)

Layout a couple packages of balloons so you can see al the colors and start pinning. Pin some by the round top part, some by the center, and some by the mouth of the balloon. You want to pin it different ways so it creates variety and texture.

Get the kids involved. They were so anxious to help! I let my 2 year old pick out what balloon color we would use next and my 4 year old pin the balloon. ( I  secretly had to redo a couple to get the color combo I liked :) but they were good little helpers. They were trying to blow them up as we put some on, so you may get some salvia mixed in there too.

It took about an hour to get all the balloons on, so it is a little time consuming but super easy.  I was really excited how it turned out!

I saw a couple online that had cute little birthday signs attached to them, but I haven't found any I like yet. Some also put a wood letter in the middle of the person's birthday. There are lots of fun variations to make it your own!

  1. Hey Christine!

I hope all is well! I can't believe we're both "all grown up and married now!" ha! I am living in Dallas and working as a middle school English teacher.

I saw your blog on FB, and lately I have really been getting into blogs AND pinterest. I LOVE this balloon wreath idea and plan to make it for my friend's upcoming birthday. Questions - Was it a big hit with your daughter? Do you think it will store well? What exact type of pins did you use?

A big congrats to you for starting your very own blog!

    1. Heidi! Its so great to hear from you! I just wrote the longest comment and for some reason it didn't post so if you get this twice, you know why :)

I love Dallas! My husband and I actually met there. Its the city of love :) Are you liking it?

The wreath was a huge hit with my daughter. Every time we drive up to the house she says "Look it my birthday!" I think kids just love anything to do with balloons in general. I haven't taken it down yet so Im not sure how it will store, but Im just gonna put it in a box in the garage. Think it should be good. The pins I used were metal sewing pins. They are just the straight ones with a flat head on top. The blog I saw it on used floral pins but Michaels was sold out of them. The sewing ones worked great though.

What a fun idea for a present! Send me a pic of the finished project!! So great to hear from you!

    2. Hey!

I'm so happy you replied back so quickly. I was worried that you might have forgotten me! BTW - HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! Very, very exciting! I hope you had a lovely day with your family and friends. I can't believe I messaged you yesterday and didn't even realize it!

I've got to catch up with you! I hit my year mark in Dallas this past August, and Jeff and I got married up in NY in July. I hated Dallas at first because of the heat and highways, but I've really grown to like it a lot more. Where are you living, when did you get married...? Do you have a fun job too or just focusing on Etsy and the blog? It sounds like things are going really well for you!

I did love this idea! My friend's birthday is in late February, so I am going to start early and hang it on her door for a surprise. I will certainly post a pic, AND thank you so much for the awesome idea! ALSO, my good friend in Dallas runs a really great fashion blog. Check it out for inspiration!
