Outerwear selections are insane this time of year. Don't get me wrong, I love a pretty dress coat (this pink one is my favorite), but you also need a good basic, neutral jacket that you can wear with anything. I got this quilted black puffer a couple weeks and it's been the perfect light weight layer as we run around on the weekends.  I think people automatically assume quilter or puffer jackets make you look puffy, but it's actually the opposite. Flat stitching and quilting on a smaller scale will actually make a piece more form fitting and feminine (stay away from larger puffs and oversized coats to keep it sleek) A quilted jacket’s versatility allows it to go from sporty to chic at the flip of a switch, like switching sneakers for heels. The quilted texture keeps things interesting, so keep other textures understated to let the quilted feature be the star of the show.

I love the classic color combination of navy, cognac, and gold. Something about the combo seems timeless and sophisticated.  I've been anxious to get a poncho for Fall. I was immediately drawn to the detailing on this one with the faux leather pockets and gold zippers on the side.

The soft pink tones of spring and summer have now made their way into fall and winter. but designers have strayed from the typical jewel-toned and neutral palettes that used to dominate fall fashion by incorporating soft tones into their collections. By taking a few cues from their designs, we can flawlessly rock these soft, feminine colors year-round. 

o   Transforming with texture: Bring your fall look together by incorporating thicker textures into your ensemble. This season is full of great pastel pieces in heavier fabrics, like this coat. To fuse a fall-vibe into softer shades with a lighter material, pair with heavier knits or other textures typical of fall. Incorporating a fall nail color is another great way to give your look an autumn feel. 

o   Neutrals are always in season: You can never go wrong by pairing a pastel with a neutral. Consider staples, like nudes, camels, greys and blacks. For advanced styling, mix popular jewel tones into your outfit or bring soft tones into fall from head to toe by rocking a monochromatic look.

A Basic Tee 4 Ways from Flats to Heels

With 365 days in a year and only so much room in a closet, rethinking the ways you wear an item is a must.  It is easy to get stuck in a rut, always pairing the same or similar pieces together, or to let older pieces get tucked away with out reusing them.

A basic tee is one of the most versatile but also most underrated pieces in a closet. In hopes of sparking your creativity, here are a few ways to restyle your favorite basic tee with simple basic pieces you may already have in your closet. I choose a colored tee, but all these looks work great with any color. 

LOOK 1:

1. Date Night: While it might seem counterintuitive to grab a t-shirt for a date, pairing it with edgier and feminine accessories gives a basic tee a life of its own. Feminine colors and a pair of heels add a softer touch, while a black crop jacket and black accessories add an edgy, masculine balance.

2. Weekend - Daytime: Weekends seem to scream “T-SHIRT!”, but a pair of jeans is expected.  Add a twist with a pair of crop sweats paired with a dressier slip-on shoe instead of a workout shoe. I am obsessed with these new jogger pants. I got them in three colors - they are super soft and a sleek sweat pant. Pair a few simple accessories to your daytime look to create a laid back but put-together weekend ensemble.

3. Day to Night: If your weekends are anything like mine, sometimes it feels like the day’s activities necessitate a wardrobe change but allow no time for it. This is always a great opportunity to rethink a basic tee. Swapping your slip ons for a pair of heels instantly elevates this look from day to night-appropriate. This on-the-go look is always a great option for transitioning from errands to a girls’ night.

4. All day, everyday: My final look is one that you could wear anywhere. By layering a knotted tee over a maxi, you create a dimensional look that is both comfortable and flattering. Paired with a structured bag and ankle boots, this relaxed, unexpected combination is an outfit appropriate for any casual occasion.

Today's look is another black and white outfit. I loved this Michael Kor's contrast button up. The oversized pockets and fit give it a more relaxed feel, easy to dress down with distressed denim or dress up with a pencil skirt for work. Zappos has always had an amazing shoe selection but now they carry so many of my favorite clothing brands (AG Jeans, Rebecca Taylor, Joie, etc).  I was excited to team up with them and show you a few of my favorites apparel items. But honestly the best thing about Zappos for me is the free overnight shipping. I'm always so anxious to get the things I order so it's nice being able to have them the next day at no extra charge.

Happy Monday everyone! Thank you for all the birthday wishes! We had such a great weekend celebrating. It's crazy the older you get the faster time goes. I can't believe its February all ready.

Who else watched the Superbowl this weekend? I was raised about an hour and half outside of Seattle so I grew up going to Seahawk games with my Dad. It was pretty exciting watching them get their first Super Bowl win, but my favorite part is always the commercials. Budweiser's commercial with the puppy and horse was hands down the best.
