How to Embrace Plaid

DETAILS.
Black Bomber Jacket (size xs - similar here)  // Grey Zip Top (size small) // Black Dotted Blouse (size small - also own it in white as seen here) // Plaid Distressed Denim (size 26 - runs small - size up) // Black Suede Booties (true to size)
ACCESSORIES.
Celine Bag (similar under $100 here) // Gold Boyfriend Watch // Karen Walker Sunglasses

When you think plaid, stop thinking lumberjack or schoolgirl – this season’s plaid pieces add an urban twist to the familiar print. Whether you are ready to embrace plaid fully this season or prefer to start with a few accents (like this plaid scarf under $20), you can do it without straying from your style.

From plaid, tartan to buffalo check, there are so many options for incorporating this trend into you closet. You can find just about any color combination since plaid is having its moment right now, but the darker, subtle hues (like this denim) are all the rage this fall. Your choices for plaid pieces aren’t limited to button-ups and coats anymore, bold plaid denim and bottoms are being seen everywhere this season.

If you are opting for a more subtle plaid look layering is key. Mixing prints and textures creates contrast in your ensemble and distracts from your eye focusing on one print. I opted for a sheer dotted blouse against the plaid paired with contrasting light and dark layers to create this effect.

If you can’t decide on how you will embrace plaid this fall, here are a few pieces to help get you inspired:

TRENDS: SPRING TO SUMMER ESSENTIALS

Transitioning your Spring to Summer wardrobe is a little easier than Winter to Spring. The sun is out and you are already sporting color and some leg.

My key pieces for the seasons would be:
1. Some Great Aviators:
Love Tory Burch's tortoise accent on the classic aviator. Tortoise is hot this year
2. A Pastel Handbag:
Mint, mint, mint, this color always catches my eye and I love the side zippers to give it some edge.
3. A Bright Skirt:
Neons (especially pink) make you look tanner and instantly brighten your mood. Don't be afraid of bright color.
4. Flat's with Sass:
You can't go wrong with these gorgeous shoes.

Spring Trend: Pastel & Metallics

Loving these soft icey tones. Mix your favorite pastel hues with a glossy metallic. Here are a few more of my favorite pics.

This weekend I was down in Dallas for a blogger conference. It is so green and beautiful right now, everything is in full bloom. Dallas has a special little place in my heart because it's where I met my hubby, so it was fun being back in our old stomping grounds.

I wore this look for one of the dinner events we had the first night. I found it online a couple weeks ago and immediately fell in love. I'm really drawn to the mirrored pattern trend right now. What do you guys think of the trend? Have you tried it?

Trend Alert: Black & White

1. // 2. // 3. // 4. // 5.

Black and white are those classic colors that look great on everyone. Combining the two is a hot trend for Spring.

One of the things I love about this trend is it's so easy to try. Who doesn't have something black or white in their wardrobe? You really can't go wrong pairing the two.

Here are a couple other black and white pieces I am loving for Spring:

ICE ICE BABY

Sweater. J. Crew. (now extra 30% off) // Jacket. F21. // Denim. AG Jeans. // Heels. ALDO. (on sale) // Clutch. Gigi New York. c/o // Sunglasses. H&M.

Feeling inspired by the icy cold trend of bright blues and shiny hues, metallic pieces are this seasons  hot, easy way to spruce up the classic fall/winter look.

TGIF. for reals.
So looking forward to getting in the holiday spirit this weekend. We got Santa letters to write, snow globes to make, and Christmas Lights to see.
What are your big weekend plans?

This week has been about dressing up pieces you typically use for casual day to day wear.
I have always been a hat girl. Usually typical cap outfits are sweats and no shower days when I need to hide my greasy hair, but from time to time I like to switch it up. Try pairing a hat with a dressier outfit.

Instant ways to dress up a casual outfit:
1. Heels
2. Jewelry
3. Lipstick

If I took these 3 factors away from this look it would completely change the ensemble. .
Step outside your comfort zone this week and try dressing up a casual piece. Let me know how it goes! :)

Case of The Dots.

Top: Thrifted $4
Pants: Forever 21
(These are the comfiest pants ever! It's like wearing sweats all day)
Shoes: Zara
Necklace: ILY COUTURE (NEW to our Fall Collection)
Watch: Michael Kors

I have been obsessed with polka dots. Big dots, small dots, medium dots, it's a full blown case of the dots. Mix sizes, colors, patterns, honestly anything goes with dots which makes it a super easy trend to wear. Who else is obsessing over this trend?

On a lighter note, I leave you with my balancing in heels skills.

HAPPY THIURSDAY!

Thrifty Thursday: Denim Delight

If you follow me on IG (@christineandrew) you have seen my love for all things denim. Denim jackets, vests, colored denim, if it's denim I probably like it. I have been so excited about denim vests for some reason. Maybe it's because I've had a denim jacket for years so I needed something new to add to the denim craze hitting fashion right now.

I was beyond stoked when I found a denim vest at Urban. (I had been hunting for months!)
I kind of splurged because normally I wouldn't spend $70 on something that isn't a staple item, but it was exactly what I had been looking for, so I impulsively gave in!

A week later I was out thrifting and realized there was a rather large overload of denim jackets, well basically just an overload of denim (this is definitely one of those old trends cycling back around). Anyways, I found this cute Levi's (same brand as Urban one) for $4! Uhmm that's 95% of the price of the other one. It was a no brainer. Return the other one and transform this into a vest!

If you are new to the denim trend. I would say start here. Denim jackets are so cute! They match almost everything. (See them styled on my blog here & here)

So if you already own a denim jacket and want to switch things up a bit, go for a vest! They are super easy to make.

1. Cut off the sleeves about a quarter inch away from the seam so there is fabric to fray. Start pulling the cross stitches of the fabric so you start to see a fray. (Washing is another great way to amplify the fray) If you want a vest that will match a lot, Walah! Your done. I wanted a more statement piece so I took it a step farther

2. Find a fabric you like to add some contrast. (JoAnn is always a great place to buy fabric. Download there app on your phone for free coupons) I am in LOVE with floral and dots right now so this fabric was the best of both worlds. I wanted it to have that edgy yet organic feel so I only sewed the fabric on one side. Do whatever fits your style! I am still in debate of adding a patch to the back at well, but that's one of the fun things about creating your own clothes is you can continuously change them!

I can't wait to style this vest! Waiting for the perfect day to bust it out.

Bottom Line: Denim is in. Get yourself a jacket or vest. If you don't like thrifting here are some affordable jackets under $40 here & here.

Polka Dots with Flare

Add a little flare to your style. Seventies inspired denim is making a comeback this spring. Add wide legged denim with tees or blouses. I got this sheer polka dot blouse on mega clearance a couple weeks ago. $5.25!

Denim: J Brand
Top: Old Navy
Watch: Dillards - Anne Klein

Polka Dotting

Big dot. Small dot.

Mixing prints and sizes of print really makes an outfit pop. Polka dots are a big trend for spring, I think they will become the new closet staple like stripes.
